Eric Astoul was born in 1954. After having been trained in a number of workshops, he discovered at La Borne the attraction of working with stoneware and wood-firing. He moved to La Borne in 1982 and began examining how to express himself in turned forms, defined in a container. After successive firings and exhibitions this expression appears to have made his pots deviate from their original shape. He is looking for harmony between the shape and the outer, mineral skin. The colour and the materials used in each piece are designated by wood-firing at 1300°C for 5 to 6 days in his large, open-flamed hill-climbing kiln.
Why choose wood-firing? It gives a breath of life to the ceramics.

Technique :

Wood-firing in an anagama kiln.
Thai- style climbing kiln with open-flame
Unglazed clay.
An internship at Ratilly and training in a number of workshops, at La Borne in the workshops of Digan and Janet Stedman.
