SCULPTURES D’ANIMAUX
My job involves the representation of animals. Since the beginning of time, Man has had a close relationship with animals. My work approach triggers intense images, memories, feelings and associations in Man. Animals are palpable and perceptible, and they have a strong symbolic power. They are widely represented in every type of mythology. Man’s relationship with animals, which is both close and contradictory, dates back to the origins of humanity. Since the beginning of the Stone Age, Man has lived in a world that was previously inhabited and shaped by animals. For humans, they represented a food source, competitors for food and also a threat.
The study of ancient representations of animals, in particular the cave art of the Lascaux and Chauvet caves in the South of France, has convinced me to explore this theme in my work in greater depth. I have placed at the heart of my work the relationship between Humans and Animals at the era when Humanity was born. I feel a deep sense of admiration for the artists of Prehistoric times who managed to capture the inner essence of animals with just a few strokes of paint.
The main challenge for me in representing animals is to capture an internal movement, a dynamic image, caught in the moment. In my work, I intentionally seek to trigger a mental association with archaic forms of representation. I enjoy taking those who contemplate my work back to the time of prehistoric man who succeeded in producing impressive works of art of his own volition.
