Joël Marot

In 1995, Joël Marot trained in various ceramic techniques at the CNIFOP Centre. His work revolves around utilitarian ware turned on the wheel, and stoneware sculptures made with slabs. Slip, oxide and ash texture the material and matify the skin of the pieces. Joël is looking for restrained, efficient forms of volume. At night, ideas spring up inadvertently. His sketches preserve the starry memory. The way he assembles plates is done unconsciously, on a whim. These off-balance constructions stand side by side with archaic architectural structures and improbable mechanisms. Joël fires everything at 1300°C using gas or wood as the fuel for the kiln.
