Nirdosh Petra van Heesbeen

Nirdosh Petra is a ceramist and amateur calligrapher who has been working with stoneware and porcelain since she set up at the end of her studies at the Hertogenbosch School of Fine Arts in 1974. She creates sculptures from turned, distorted and assembled elements. Temples are kinds of sophisticated caskets for stones or sacred materials. These small, closed architectural pieces are engraved and embellished with reliefs and imprints that capture the colours of salt or wood firing. Glazes with ash sometimes on slip or celadon cover the usual pieces. The teapot on its stand is Nirdosh Petra’s emblematic piece, the epitome of technical precision and a totally unique expression.
