Pep Gomez

Pep Gomez began in ceramics on his own, before going to the School of Fine Arts in Tarragona. He then travelled to meet potters in the Balearic Islands and in Japan, where he worked for 5 months in the Ryôji Koié workshop to prepare a joint exhibition. Pep works in stoneware clay in the same spirit as this master, and makes large scale sculptures, either from blocks or coils; He works rapidly in order to maintain a very spontaneous gestural style, both in terms of shaping and engraving signs and symbols. The long wood firing brings substance to the raw clay. He also creates original, decorated tableware, as well as occasional sculptures on a theme.
